NUGGETS 104, MAGIC 101: Ty Lawson had 25 points and nine assists as visiting Denver took advantage of the absence of All-Star Dwight Howard to hand Orlando its third straight loss.
Howard was a late scratch because of back spasms. He was replaced in the starting lineup by Glen Davis, who responded with 18 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
Aaron Afflalo scored 22 points and Sixth Man of the Year candidate Al Harrington added 18 for Denver, which improved to 3-3 on its season-long seven-game trip.
Jameer Nelson scored 14 of his 27 points in the third quarter and Ryan Anderson recorded 20 points and nine rebounds for Orlando.
Rookie Kenneth Faried made two straight blocks and added an alley-oop dunk in a 1:36 span to put Denver ahead 99-90 with 1:47 to go.
Orlando closed to 99-97 on J.J. Redick’s three-point play with 45.2 seconds remaining before Lawson’s jumper with 23.9 seconds left made it 101-97.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy said Howard was punched in the lower back by Dallas’ Brendan Haywood on Friday. … Anderson, who leads the NBA by a wide margin in 3-point field goals (150) and attempts (363), was 3 for 10 and Orlando was 8 for 32. … Howard had played in all 52 previous games this season and has missed only six in his career. … Denver improved to 4-20 all-time in Orlando. … The Magic enjoyed an 18-7 offensive rebound advantage.
